Interview with a hepatitis C patient
Patient: Azra Abid Karim. Age: sixty years.
How was the hepatitis C virus detected by you?
Ans: I went for a yearly routine blood test, and discovered that I had tested Positive for hepatitis C.
What year was your hepatitis C virus detected in?
Ans: It was detected in year 2000.
Who did you go to after you tested positive for hepatitis C?
Ans: I went to a liver specialist Dr. Altaf Alam who is a consultant gastroenterologist at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore.
What treatment did he suggest?
Ans: He did a liver biopsy and an ultra sound of the abdomen and prescribed Some tests. The ultra sound showed an enlarged liver.
What medication was prescribed?
Ans : (a) Injection Interferon, (b) Tab Ribazole 500mg , (c) Tab Folic Acid , Were prescribed For a period of six months.
After six month medication then what did the Dr. prescribe?
Ans: After six months of medication the dr. prescribed some more tests to see if the medication had worked in controlling the hepatitis C virus and since I was lucky the medication had worked and my tests were clear. The Dr. again prescribed the same tests after six months and when they were clear again he told me I was free of the hepatitis virus.
Now ten years have passed and Azra Abid is leading a healthy and Happy life, but she is one of the lucky few whose hepatitis was discovered in its very initial stage and then treated properly.
